My Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of education lies in a core belief that every student should have an equal and equitable opportunity to learn.

I believe that students want to learn, in fact, that they are eager to learn. However, many students are not provided with the adequate resources to learn to their fullest extent. I believe they should all have an opportunity to be educated, to want to do better, and to

succeed.

I believe that students want to change the world. I know that there are students who are extremely passionate, driven, and guided by the things they learn and create. It is something I am most proud to see when I get the opportunity to work with young people. This exemplar of constructivism is important. I believe constructivism is an integral part of a student’s education. It should be demonstrated in every classroom and learning space. It should be the way we as educators go about teaching, understanding

that learning is a two-way street, and we can learn from students just as they can learn from us.

I believe in multiple intelligences theory. I believe that all students should be provided with an education that caters to their individual needs and sets them up for success. I believe in the incorporation of multiple intelligences theory within student work to guide their practices. Along with multiple intelligences theory, I believe in social emotional learning and the impact it has on students in the classroom and beyond. I believe we must meet students where they are at with what they need in order to help them succeed.

I believe in teaching to student interests and helping them to choose their own paths, not the paths society wants them to choose. I believe students will be interested in what is being taught if we cater to what they are interested in. I believe that we can encourage any student to focus and work hard while taking their interests into consideration when creating lessons.

With all of this comes kindness. I believe in the power of kindness and empathy and its large place it holds in the classroom. I believe, by leading with kindness, students will be more likely to be receptive to learning and receptive to my teaching. I believe kindness can create a welcoming environment for everyone.

I believe in education. I believe in the future of our students. I believe we, and they, can change the world.
